Epson Monochrome Supertank Printer Show Down in Canada — ST-M1000, ST-M3000, and WF-M5799

Epson offers several monochrome (black ink only) printers, the Epson ST-M1000, ST-M3000, and WF-M5799. Which of these three monochrome Epson Supertank printers is right for you?

If you’re looking for a simple monochrome printer with low per page ink costs, the single function Epson ST-M1000 is a great choice. It comes with USB, wireless, Wi-Fi Direct and Ethernet ports, has a 2400 dpi print resolution and can print 20 ISO pages per minute. Because it’s an Epson Supertank printer, the ST-M1000 comes with up to two years of ink in the box, which is enough to print up to 11,000 ISO pages.

The Epson ST-M3000 is virtually identical but adds additional functions. The Epson ST-M3000 is a 4-in-1 printer that prints, scans, copies, and faxes whereas the Epson ST-M1000 is a single function printer only.

The Epson WorkForce WF-M5799 is also a 4-in-1 monochrome printer. It has a higher print resolution (4800 dpi versus 2400 dpi on the ST-M1000 and ST-M3000 printers), a faster print speed at 24 ISO pages per minute, and a larger sheet capacity (up to 1330 sheets with optional tray versus just 250 sheets on the other two printers). The Epson WF-M5799 also comes with more ink (enough to print up to 30,000 ISO pages in the first two years) for Canadian businesses that have larger print volume requirements.

All three models are considered “super tank” models and come with two years of ink in the box. The ST-M1000 and ST-M3000 both have refillable tanks that are filled using low-cost bottles of black pigment inks. The Epson WF-M5799 uses Epson’s innovative Replaceable Ink Pack System (RIPS) for high capacity ink and easy ink replacements.
